About This Project

OSR Studio is a complete rebrand of the excellent screen recording software originally known as Captura. This project builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessors while establishing a fresh identity for better visibility and continued development.

Why the Rebrand?

The rebrand was essential for the project's visibility and long-term sustainability. With a fresh name and identity, OSR Studio can reach more users who need a simple, reliable screen recording solution.

OSR stands for "Open Screen Recorder" - a name that embodies the project's core values:

  • Open Source - No watermarks, no hassle. The code is transparent and community-driven.
  • Open to Everyone - Simple to use, grab and go in just a few clicks. No complicated setup, no fuss.

The ethos of this app is straightforward: it's designed for the everyday user who just wants to record their screen. Whether you're capturing a quick tutorial, saving a video call, or documenting a bug - OSR Studio is built for simplicity and accessibility, not for professional streamers with complex needs.

A Note About OBS Studio: We're not competing with or trying to replace OBS Studio. If you already know how to work with OBS, stick with it - it's an excellent tool for professionals and power users. OSR Studio is specifically for someone taking their very first steps into screen recording, who just needs something that works immediately without a learning curve. Think of us as the "grab and go" option for casual users, not a professional streaming solution.

This broad compatibility is made possible largely thanks to FFmpeg's incredible versatility. From software encoding for maximum compatibility to hardware acceleration when available, the app automatically selects the best approach for your system.
